At the moment there is no easy solution for Frank. There are some patches to add support for PPTP, and the Coyote linux router includes PPTP support, but I think for incoming connections, not to support a single outgoing connection via a misguided ISP.
Frank, make sure that you let your ISP know how misguided they are. And speak to your local Linux user group for technical advice about how to connect to that ISP using linux. It can probably be done, and if it can be done with RedHat, it can be done with e-smith with a little effort. See
