Topic: sme box locking up..

yes i've tried different cables...I'm 100% positive it's not a nic issue cause i can transfer large about of data off the disks to a windows machine using the samba share..Lock up only occurs when using the samba shares to move data from one disk to another

Do you mean that it did work OK transferring these large amounts of files between the server hard disks for nearly a month using Windows PCs and then suddenly played up ? or did it never work correctly ?
Which scenario are we dealing with ?

Did you make any changes to the server recently ?

Maybe upgrade your version of samba to 2.2.8a but not sure if that will help at all, its in Charlie Bradys contribs on mirror sites.

Also version 5.6 seems fussy about correctly functioning RAM, there may be a faulty bit that's upsetting things (that did not cause an issue with Windows before). Run memtest overnight on your server, also available in Charlie Bradys contrib mirror sites.
