Anyone having used IMAPCopy?
« on: November 10, 2003, 06:53:14 PM »
Hi,

I would like to use IMAPCopy to copy all the email forlders/messages between my old 4.1.2 server and the new 6b3 box.  I found the tip here:

http://e-smith.org/bboard/read.php?f=3&i=35420&t=35420

IMAPCopy home page:

http://home.arcor.de/armin.diehl/imapcopy/imapcopy.html

Has anyone of you used this method to copy messages between a 4.1.2 and a v6b3 server?

In addition to different IP addresses on the two servers, it appears that I need to assign different port numbers to IMAP as well to make this work.

Any tips or white paper about this is highly appreciated.

best regards

Shouldn't be any need to assign different port numbers; what makes you think that?

I wondered about that too, with different IP adresses it shouldn't be necessary.  However the author did that in the script sample the IMAPCopy home page.

I think that's just an example, in case the other server is listening on a different port number.  I ran into some issues trying to use IMAPcopy, but that wasn't one of them.

Ah, you did try to use it - with or without luck??..

As I'm a newbie it seems that I shouldn't even try :-|  Did you succeed at the end or did you have to give up?  Would it run for me out of the box, or will there bee too much hassle?

I wasn't completely successful--it copied lots of messages, but not all of them.  However, my source machine was heavily modified, in particular using a different IMAP server from the standard installation, which may have contributed to my problems.

My experience with it was very good. It did a bulk copy of 60 users' email and folders from a 5.1.2 server to s 6.0b3 server with no errors. There were no modifications to IMAP on either server.

OK, sounds good.  I needed a bit encouragement now.

Btw. what are the IMAP servers in v 4.1.2 and v6b3 called?  At the IMAPCopy home page there are different versions for different imap servers.  I need to know which ones to choose.

4.1.2 uses UW-IMAP IMAP4REV1 I believe.
