Shutting down un-needed services

I've been around Linux for a while, but haven't gotten real deep into it. What's the best way to shut down un-needed services (such as pop or imap) on the freshly installed 6.0 beta 3 machine?

Hello,
There is a contrib that done that job e-smith-service-control-1.1.0-06.noarch.rpm
It's add a new interface into server-manager and allow you to disable service.
rgds,
MasterSleepy.

Thank you! That's perfect! I'm having trouble downloading because the contribs are listed by author. Do you know who wrote it?

Nevermind, I found it. It's by Jay Miller

Thanks again!
