installing backup2ws

installing backup2ws
« on: November 21, 2003, 08:01:44 AM »
I tried installing backu2ws and it is in the administration.

I then told it to do what it refers to as a 911 backup. required backup to do a restore of system settings after a crash, and to start immediately.

It stated it would start soon and inform me of a result in email.

However nothing happened overnight no new backup files showed up in directory and I never received an email.

I have version 6.03 of smeserver in case that is a problem?

I have no experience installing RPMs so probably didn't get everything installed properly. Are their basic instructions so I might try again.

Thanks, Ken

i use this backup2ws all the time and it is great here are a couple of tips i remember the computer name must be //computername/share not \computername\share you can only backup to the root share not a sub share eg this is ok \computername\share but this is not \computername\share\directory. I have had once where i did create a job and it did not work but when i remomved it and recreated it it worked ok. Did you make sure that you installed the rar package as well. Also when you share the directory that you are going to put the backup in make sure the server has permission to write to it. You can check the logs of the backup in logs it will create a log with backup2ws and the job number check what happend in there if there is no log i say you will have to remove the job and recreate it. Hope this helps

I've had trouble as well but the suggestions have so far not worked.
My problem is that the backup works fine if I start it manually but doesn't run automatically.

Are you hitting the Save button at the bottom of the list of backup jobs - it seems to be wg=hat creates the cron entries -

I believe I have this correct

911 Disaster Recovery rar //p4/sme-backup2ws  manual Daily Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday View/Modify Backup Restore Remove

Not so sure that I got this installed correctly - anyone can run through the simplest procedure for this, either directly or with midnight commander ?

I could not find a log file at all by that name. Perhaps I will try a simpler backup of one file or something.

Thanks for all the tips, it does look like an essential utility. I was backing up the data but obviously also backing up server settings would be a great benefit

Success - I think

I did as you suggested just trying to backup  of /var rar //p4/bu
which did not work either but backup of

/var rar //P4/bu did seem to work.

Unless their was a delay it appears capitalizing the name  ( P4 and not p4  )as windows wants to do on everything is required.
