I know it's Mitel policy not to release dates on when the next version is due, and I know its been talked about alot in this forum.  But at least can we have a quarter, on when it is expected to be released.?

justanidea....

I would have thought the better question was - with the current updates how different is what we have from the real thing (understanding that we only get the free packages).

I do wonder why Mittel don't have a similar policy to other Linux companies who release a basic version and then call the full monty one somethink like "professional" or "powerpack" or "pro-suite". Might end all this continual grumbling about "betas" and "final".

But then I'm not a Mittel employee so who am I to tell them what the best policy is.

This is a dead distro.  Really.

The commercial version is called Mitel Networks 6000 Managed Application Server.

The free version is called Mitel Networks SME Server unsupported developer release.

Applying the latest updates to SME Server 6.0beta3 removes all references to 'beta' in the installed program.

I can't understand what all this winging is about. SME Server is provided free and the download page at http://www.e-smith.org/download/ plainly states, "The unsupported developer release does not provide access to any of the services included in our Mitel Networks 6000 Managed Application Server".

justanidea....

Well then why don't they do a new ISO, with the updates, and call it SME Server 6 unsupported developer release.

I would have thought this would put an end to all this speculation and stop people contunually asking when the final release was coming.

If its finished as the updates removing the "beta" would suggest then can't we get a closure on this PLEASE

Dear All
I think it's funny that people can't wait until Mitel annouce the final release just like they do with all previous releases. As I understand it, Mitel work on this project when time permits and when they finally finish it, they will annouce it.

It's quite obvious that it is still a beta release, despite suggestions by many users that it is no longer a beta because the name beta was removed from a screen in a recent update.  Mitel promote it as a beta and the ISO and updates are still in the dev folder on mirror sites.

It would appear to be a quite advanced beta release, but a beta nevertheless.

Why can't you all just sit back and wait, it's given out for free, so let the product reach it's full development.

I also understand that the best way to help Mitel release a final version, is to test the beta and send feedback & bug reports to smebugs@mitel.com

Glad to see that there are also wise people on the forum, Ray.
I also agree that the Beta is very advanced.
I have been running Beta 3 with updates for quite a while already and it runs perfectly.
Have been mailing bugs to Mitel at the beginning but I have no bugs to report anymore.
As a matter of fact, I think it runs much better as 5.6 already for quite a while.
Just run Beta 3 with all updates or else just wait patiently.

Mitel, you have a good product.
Keep up the good work.

Why would you say that? If so, you should move on.

And here is the answer from Mitel

"We will be preparing a 6.0 unsupported developer release in the next
week or two that will essentially be 6.0beta3 plus a few recent
security updates. This will be the last "official" unsupported
developer release that we have planned. "

Hi

There was an official annoucement that was made on the dev list.

We get a version 6.0 ISO that reflects the current status of the project and then if I understand it correctly its down to the development community to then decide what, if any, further development is done and how/what platform that will be conducted.

I suspect this means there could be interesting times ahead.
