Does anyone know where I should go to find details of hardware on which SME6b3 will work?
I have spent literally a week trying to match up my client's requirements with the hardware that I am able to get my hands on, and still don't know if SME will work until I've actually bought the server and tried it out.
I've already been bitten with a Compaq server - it took months of digging and trail-and-error to get the DAT working, and I still can't get the Dual processors to be recognised. I simply can't aford a big bunch of debug time to get a server working, but don't really know how to spec up a server that will work first time.
The manufacterer's provide 'RH7.2' compatibility in their specs, but what does that actually refer to? Does it mean a RH GUI is needed to manage the RAID arrays, for example? Would it imply that it should work without a kernel recompile? Or not?
I am probably missing some vital link or database somewhere - but I don't know where. The amount of time I've spent trying to work out in advance whether SME6b3 will work on a server I have yet to order, could have bought me enough Exchange licences to cater for the client's needs.
Is this a typical experience, or am I doing something wrong?
