virtual email vs virtual domains...
« on: December 14, 2003, 07:38:05 PM »
Hi,

I'm totally new to SME but this afternoon I installed SME 6.0 on a testserver and now I have a few questions :

I have 3 domains wich all use the info@*.be account + these 3 domains use all team@*.be to send an email for the all users in that specific domain.

How is this done ? Normally with postfix I can easily fix this with editting /etc/postfix/virtual and running the postmap command but SME with qmail seems a bit less flexibel ?

after some searching I found a howto on http://wiki.contribs.org/index.php?module=article&view=10&MMN_position=33:33
but that only seems to resolve the info@* issue, and don't now if this even will work on a 6.0 box, also the team@*.be with multiple users doesn't seem to be documented anywhere.

There was also a recent post I found that suggest to buy the Virtual Domain rpm from Dungog but don't know if this will work on 6.0 and I rather fix it myself instead of paying for it. (no offense)

so did someone managed to get this working ? I'm also thinking of using squirrelmail on a per domain basis, did someone got that working on 6.0 ?

thx in advance !

According to dungog's changelog virtual domain package has been fixed to work with SME6
http://dungog.net/sme/changelog/vdomain.txt
>>>
%description
SMEserver rpm that provides for mail forwarding of emails to individuals
or the whole of the virtual domain. Using the Userpanel rpm, it allows
nominated virtual domains to be delegated to a user to manage.

- BETA release
- SME 6.0 support, servermanager navigation & shows tables correctly
- DNS forwarding removed, this was only needed on SME 5.5
with 5.6 and above use the Hostnames and Addresses panel
- function and panel heading renamed
- delegates to admin, everyone, a group or a single user
- [0.2-1]
>>>

for multiple recepients you can try to create group "team" include users who need to get this e-mail and sent e-mail to that group.

uhm, but I can't create 3 times the same group team or can I ???

What this vdomain.rpm concerns, isn't there a way to configure this on your own with qmail, think you learn more like this instead of running a 33$ rpm...

You can create as many groups (up to 28 total) as you have teams. User can be member of more then one group. Sending e-mail to group will should result in all members of the group receive it.
For more complete solution with group mail distribution see "ezml" or"mailman" addons to create distribution lists.

Totaly up to you.
Some people want to learn and do everything themselvs, some preffer to pay (a little) and start using their purchase to achive other goals with their business right away.

Try this:
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/dmay/mitel/howto/vdomain-alias-howto.html
It is working for me on SME 5.5. You will have to test on SME 6.0
Cheers
