911 restore to new HD - loses Ibays user accounts
« on: December 15, 2003, 09:32:39 AM »
Hi
I've been trying to restore using the backup2ws utility to a new larger HD, all goes well except that when I go to the Control panel and check my ibays there arn't any also I lose user accounts.
The 911 backup was made from 5.5.
Any hints on how to restore my ibays and user accounts would be appreciated.

Cheers

Jon

Cheers Ray,

I have scanned the forums for any hints and had entered '/home/e-smith entered twice'  I checked the ibays and  all the files seem to be in place ( I'm using phpnuke). Bit of background I've been working on this for a few weeks now and tried every combination of '911 restore' 'full restore' 'backup to desktop' that I can thinking of..

What is missing when I open the user accounts or ibays panel is that there are no ibays or usernames. Last night on  top of the 911 restore I have performed a 'restore from desktop' which restored all accounts and ibay information. But I'm still experiencing problems with ibays and mail accounts so not totally succesfull.

My steps so far :

1) make backup of machine (911)
2) remove old HD install new HD
3) install e-smith 5.5 patch with update 2
4) restore from backup

If these steps are right perhaps someone could point out to me which files I should check are coming across ?

1) The restore should be done to a fresh instal of the OS.

2) Are you doing the
"Click here" for advanced Disaster Recovery restore options.
Which says
After performing a full Disaster Recovery restore, to rebuild your system configuration you must issue the post-upgrade event and when completed, reboot the server.

Please make sure you check that your restore finished without errors. When ready to proceed, hit the [ Perform ] button below. Note the post-upgrade event may take a considerable amount of time to complete. At completion your server will automatically reboot.

3) Have you checked the actual backup file using WinRar or similar to see if all the files & folders are actually being backed up. If they are NOT backed up, they won't be restored !!

Check/confirm the above suggestions and advise back

Hi Ray

Thanks for the response much appreciated.

>>1) The restore should be done to a fresh instal of the OS.

Yup installing a new os 5.5 then install update 2

Yup performing this task and machine reboots afterwards.

hmmm not 100% sure I;ll check the restore.log and confirm.

I've been through the Rar file that is created and all the files under /home/e-smith appear to be there, thats what made me wonder if I'm missing some files from another directory ? I'll double check as it seems I've been doing things correctly so far.

cheers

Did you make any changes to the standard 911 backup set that backup2ws creates automatically. If so you may have left something out.

You said you checked the Rar file, did you actually see
/home/e-smith/files/ibays/ibaynames
and
/home/e-smith/files/users/usernames/......

You could also try doing a test backup that just includes
/home/e-smith/files/.......
and then do a restore.
That should restore the ibays and users and config files, and see if that works OK.

Hi Ray

I double checked the 911 backup rar file and all files were present in  four folders  etc, home, opt, root.

I made a backup of /home/e-smith/files then restored and checked the restore.log  everything went all ok.

The accounts seem to be ok now and I check Emails that sort of thing - great a step forward. I still have a problem with ibays the error I get is "Problem in Database Connection" I guess this must relate to connection to mysql ? I've searched the forums and drew a blank so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
