Slightly OT - handheld IMAP clients?

Slightly OT - handheld IMAP clients?
« on: December 20, 2003, 03:45:23 PM »
This query is only related to SME in the sense that having migrated all my email to IMAP folders on my server, I'd like an effective way to access it from my Handspring PDA/phone.

I use ADSL with dynamic DNS, so I can log into Horde from anywhere with a browser, but it's not usable from the small screen of a PDA (running PalmOS). I have an email client on the PDA, but it's POP3 so will only look at the inbox. I'd like a full IMAP PDA client, but I cannot find one anywhere.

Any ideas? Anyone else even tried to do this?

TIA

Thanks. I think I've looked into just about everything listed there already! At least two products that had IMAP support are no longer available, about the only thing left is PaPi-Mail.

I did try a free eval of it a while ago, and it was pretty bad :(   This time I did find a much better update, but it still has serious limitations as an IMAP client, as it's clearly been designed for POP than had IMAP bolted on. I've sent the author's some suggestions, I'll see what transpires.

An alternative would be a PDA-friendly version of something like Horde, but I don't know of anything. Horde itself is much too "busy" to be workable on a PDA browser (there do appear to be some embryonic hooks for PDA/Phone presentation, but nothing workable).

No more ideas I suppose?

How about via WAP? I access my email via my Sony Ericsson-T616 on my SME 5.6 server via WAP and it works great. There is an excellent how-to => http://www.akki.lu/ContentExpress-display-ceid-23.html for setting it up.

Thanks, that looks promising. I'd been considering a WAP or PDA-browser-friendly Web interface as an option, but hadn't been able to find one.

I'll try setting it up and see how it goes - I'll let you know!

Cheers, Rick
