Topic: how to send via ISP SMTP?

I've been happily using my SME's mail server for a couple of years.  I also have a domain name which redirects to my home server. all worked well, until last week. Suddenly, my redirection provider refuses all mail from my home server, saying that it is a dynamic IP address which is now not permitted by policies of a DNSBL.   Yes, in fact my box is connected to Shaw.

How do I set up my SME server to use Shaw as an SMTP instead of using qmail's own SMTP?  I tried modifying simply specifying 'shawmail' in the server-manager email settings but that appears to have no effect.

hope this doesn't sound too newbyish to be understandable.

Does your Shaw SMTP server require autentication?

If so, then SME won't do this.  I think there might be a contrib to do it however.

If it doesn't require authentication, you need to put something like smtp.shawmail.com in the "Address of Internet provider's mail server " box in the server manager.  You need to find the SMTP's proper address.

putting shawmail in the SMTP server box in the Email Other settings didn't work.  SME Server tells me that's an incorrectly formed domain name.  

Shaw doesn't provide the full domain name of their mail servers, but from a little dissection of a few messages I've sent via their webmail, I can ascertain that the format is as follows:
shawmail.cg.shawcable.net
where cg is for calgary

If you live in a different city, you'll probably need a different two-letter city code in there.

After making the above code, I am now able to send mail from my SME server via the Shaw SMTP server instead of via the in-built qmail SMTP server. This is necesary, because many ISPs now refuse email from any server with a dynamic IP address (which is the case of an SME server installed on a Shaw Cable (or perhaps even a Telus ADSL) line.

AOL (and a lot of others) will also reject any mail sent by a server on a dynamic IP.
