Newspro and SME 6

I have an operational SME 6 server.  I installed a newsposting program named newspro that uses cgi scripts to let you login and post news to an html page.   So far, I have found that I cannot chmod any files on my server from my ftp program(WSFTP), it tells me PERMISSION DENIED, CHMOD FAILED, IT MAY NOT BE SUPPORTED ON REMOTE SITE.   I chmod'd the files from command line no problem, but the cgi still will not execute, I have tried 777 and 755 with no luck.  I even tried to chown the file and directory to shared...still no luck.

WHat version of perl is running in SME 6.0 and what is the correct path top perl?  Maybe I have that wrong...any suggestiond?

Hi,
The correct path for perl is: /usr/bin/perl
I had a simular problem and used winscp to chmod the files. I think that there is something that needs to be changed or maybe there is an add-on to allow the chmod via FTP,  try searching the all forums and all dates as I am sure this has been covered nmany times. Good Luck.
