Occasionally, we import our contacts database to ldap to provide easy access to mail clients and so on.

With 6.0,  I issue:

ldapmodify -xf foo.ldif

and get a nasty message...

ldap_add: Insufficient access
        additional info: no write access to parent

Even though I execute as root.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Walter if you find a solution please let me know, I'm new to LDAP, but it has ben plain futile to find anything relating to this.

It appears that ladp has change in 6. as I am unable to connect to ladp from any workstation either.

This might be a clue, on the front end under "Directory" there is no longer a reference to the ladp server name as was in previous versions.

I was attempting to install this;

"Address Book|4.1.x|Daniel Tan|http://www.netbase-t.com/esmith/AddressBook-howto.html|How to create a global address book to store external addresses"

...but the link is gone and an old howto I found in a cache on google does not work. I want to use the SME ldap as a universal address book.

Webweave could you please forward me the cached howto, then I'll take a try. I have tried to find the cached version on google but had no success. I can easily connect to the ldap from my workstations. What kind of clients are you using to connect to the ldap?
