No, the 6000 MAS is not being discontinued.
However, in certain regions of the world (such as Europe) we are no longer marketing/selling certain products based on the 6000 MAS, specifically the 6040 Office Server Suite and 6042 Managed VPN.
I explained much of this in my "the road ahead" message to our devinfo mailing list:
http://www.mail-archive.com/devinfo@lists.e-smith.org/msg12336.htmlPart of the confusion is that prior to our release 6.0 back in July 2003, we referred to the entire package as the "6000 Managed Application Server" or "6000 MAS". From 6.0 on, we use "6000 MAS" to refer to the base operating system and the "traditional" data services were called the "6040 Office Server Suite" and "6042 Managed VPN".
The 6010 Teleworker Solution continues to be available *globally*. It's being deployed all around the world on a daily basis and is helping many, many people have secure remote extensions off of their Mitel phone switches. The 6010, and some other related efforts, are the focus of both our development and marketing efforts right now. We are continuing to develop the 6010 and the underlying 6000 MAS base operating system.
The 6040 Office Server Suite and 6042 Managed VPN continue to be available in the Americas (North, South and Latin), Australia and through some existing resellers of ours in other areas of the world. However, in our EMEA region we have decided to focus solely on the 6010 and so the 6040 and 6042 will no longer be available there.
So the answer you received from our UK office was correct in that in Europe we are discontinuing *sales* of the 6040 Office Server Suite and that is what people have traditionally thought of as "the 6000 MAS". Please read my note to devinfo if you want more information about our plans.
If you ever have any questions such as this, please do contact me directly as I will be glad to answer them, but I do not monitor the forums here.
Regards,
Dan
