IRC Question HOWTO

I am an absolute Linux newbie, but I have managaged to install a V4 dial up server which appears to be working extreamly well.

I read in the back of the user guide that IRC is 'supported' but can find no way of configuring the e-smith server to allow it to be used.

We support 6 clients,.. one wants to run XChat on RH6.1 and the other MIRC on Windows NT4

HELP where do I go ? what do I do ?

Perhaps someone could write a step by step HOWTO ?

Unless I'm greatly misunderstanding your question, what you do is install and use IRC clients as you would without the e-smith machine--it should have no effect on your ability to access IRC, and you shouldn't need to configure or modify anything on the e-smith box to make it work.

Did you mean you want the e-smith box to act as an IRC server?  That isn't supported, and I don't know of anybody working on such a project at the moment.

Um ?

I certainly don't want to use it as an IRC server.

We need two of the client workstations to be able to 'communicate' through the e-smith into the real world.

I would like to think you are right but perhaps someone could clarify if the e-smith does need to be modified to allow IRC on ports 6667 - 7000? and where the 'ident' come's from Etc.

Already I feel out of my depth but I'm sure we will get this sorted.

Perhaps e-smith themselves could suggest the best solution in line with their 'excelent' security strategy..........

Seems to me that this needs a definative step by step HOWTO or is this for the wish list?
