I am having almost the same problem running v4 or E-Smith. My server is permanently connected via a shared DSL line on our local LAN, and on the specified retrieval interval it starts a secure PPP session (using stunnel) to our mail relay server and kicks off fetchmail through the PPP tunnel. However, every once in a while it just gets lost - PPP starts fine, connectivity with our mail relay server is fine, but mail is not retrieved. The only solution I've found thus far is just to restart the server, which rectifies the problem every time.
Does anyone have a resolution to this problem? If I wanted to reboot every day or so I'd just run NT!!!
Thanks,
