I am attempting to use MNS messenger between two e-smith servers connected to the Internet using AT&T cable modems. The messenger service works fine in the chat moden. However, it isn't able to connect in voice mode. Question is does a special port have to be opened up to allow voice conversations. If so, which one and how?

My guess is that the voice mode uses the H323 protocol (see http://www.openh323.org/). If so, then it's not just a special port which needs to be opened up, but transport for a new protocol (GRE) needs to be set up.

It's something the e-smith would like to support, but it's not something that will happen soon.

Thanks for the input. Guess I will wait for a while. Its almost impossible to keep up with client requirements. Give them a little bandwidth and they go wild.

I had the same problem. I had to change over to Yahoo's messenger program so I could 'voice' back and forth. You have to speak on it like a CB, which is just about the only drawback.Gerald wrote:
