is the limit on email name length still a problem?

When 4.0 first released I noticed a few postings on user names and related email names restricted to something like 8 characters.  I am revisiting e-smith and wanted to know if this is still an issue or maybe is fixed in v5?

It's not an email restriction, but an overall username restriction - see
below.

The limit is 12 as some Windows  9x clients break with i-bay/share
names longer than 12 characters. We can't increase the limit without
causing issues on the local network - we would create i-bays/shares
which could not be accessed.

e-smith 5 will support first.last and first_last aliases for each user
automatically and we have contributed packages to support this
available now under the "Contributed Modules" link on
www.e-smith.org

Please let us know if this doesn't meet your requirements.
