Is there a specific reason that the latest e-smith server uses version
5.1.0-1 of fetchmail while the current 'gold' release is 5.5.0 ?

Do you anticipate a possibility in breaking the server by upgrading to v 5.5.0 ?

I am having a few ETRN problems with fetchmail, which I will discuss in a
separate posting.

The e-smith server and gateway v 4.0 is based on RedHat 6.1, which included version 5.1.0 of fetchmail. We have not identified any problems which would be fixed by upgrading fetchmail, so we have not issued an update.

It's possible, you would have to firstly read the manual and changenotes for fetchmail, and secondly test it to make sure. I wouldn't be surprised if it installed and ran OK.
