Thanks for replying,
I have the original gateway box setup as 10.10.10.50, the fileserver box setup as 10.10.10.51 so they have ip's outside of the scope that dhcp will issue from.
Last night I downed the file server and gave the job of DHCP back to the gateway box, thought having a box inside the network assigning ip's more reliable than the box on the gateway mostly for in the event of the modem on the gateway box being zapped and downing the server, the server dying and to lighten the load on that box.
Downing the file server box has sped up my internet access and stopped my 98(foul number here I know) from crashing apps, I actually think it was a domain problem, as I was originally logging into the Gateway box and it was my logon domain, so in essence my question now is, how do I stop the gateway box being my domain server or the file server and why is it that it is a good idea that the gateway box have the job of DHCP...?...perhaps then also the gateway box has to retain the role of domain logon server also, I do also have NT (onther foul word I know) so I would like to keep the domain logon.
Then, how do I remove or disable these features on the appropriate box...

Thanks so much
Kind Regards,
Cameron Stacey
