Topic: Domain Name

Help,

I registered a domain name, blah.com for example.
I then call my box blah.com
then at the domain registration site I need to forward all my mail to my domain, mail@blah.com.
so then the mail goes to mail@blah.coma and the loop begins.
you can see the problem, I cant use the domain name or does someone know of a tweak or something I am doing wrong...?
So the question is, is there a way to use my domain name...?

It looks like you left out a step. You need to make sure you have whoever is doing your DNS for your Domain create a MX record for your mail server.  MX is Mail Exchanger and tells who is the smtp server for your domain.  So if your host name is blah.com they would register a MX record for blah.com, if that is not done your mail will bounce.

though one more question, does it mean I need to have a static ip address for this or is that where the wildcard comes in...?

I am now using a dialup service so obviously it changes regularly...

That's where Dynamic DNS comes into play. Please make sure that you have read the User Guide, including the glossary. You will probably need to supplement that with further information you can find about DNS and mail delivery on the web.

Please note that the e-smith server and gateway does not yet support Dynamic DNS, or web site hosting, on dialup links.
