Webmail problem ???
« on: November 17, 2000, 11:03:29 AM »
Hi there

I just tried to install webmail - all went perfectly according to the step-by-step installation.

I then went to my browser - http://www.e-smith.mydomain.com/horde - it brings up the web interface but when I click on the IMP module , I get this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_pconnect() in /home/e-smith/files/primary/horde-phplib/db_mysql.inc on line 73
What does this mean?
Regards

I have encountered the same problem before, Installed mod_php-mysql.  make sure mod_php-imap is also installed.

I find all this very confusing! I downloaded & installed the original php, mysql etc modules a couple months back - I followed the install instructions to a tee & it all worked perfectly.

Since then I have reinstalled my E-smith server - so I decided I would download the latest updates & install them - I did this from Tim's linux portal site - I followed the instructions perfectly - (it doesn't include any of the mod_* files)!!!

Must I install the old files first and then try some sort of upgrade??

No, the files have changed, and there are no more mod_* files.  You do need php, php-mysql, and php-imap.  You also need e-smith-php4-0.2-2, and NOT e-smith-php4-4.0.0-whatever.

With the error you're seeing, you're probably missing php-mysql, but you might be missing e-smith-php4 instead.

Ok - I reinstalled my E-smith box. I installed the old webmail files - with the mod_php etc.

What do I need to do to upgrade? Do I really need to upgrade???? What is wrong with staying on the old version?

Why did you (again) reinstall your e-smith box?  Install all the files listed in the instructions (see http://linux.made-to-order.net/article.php&mode=nested&order=0).  This includes all the MySQL files, Apache 1.3.12, php, php-imap, php-mysql, optionally php-ldap, and e-smith-php4-0.2.  Then install horde, horde-mysql, and imp.

In this case, I'd suggest you remove everything you've installed, and then install as above.  The reason for this is that I've made some changes from the PHP 4.0.1 RPMs to the PHP 4.0.3 ones, and there may be incompatabilities between the way they do things.  I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but this will make them easier to update in the future.

I suppose you don't need to upgrade, but there are security-related fixes, as well as other bug fixes, included in the new versions, so it's strongly recommended.
