4.0.1 upgrade download fails
« on: November 30, 2000, 03:15:25 AM »
Hello, when attempting to download the 4.0.1 upgrade I get:
"error:skipping ftp://ftp.e-smith....-transfer failed - unknown or unexpected error" and
"error: cannot open file upgrade"

I have looged on to the E-smith box as root, followed the instructions and entered the command string exactly as given

After entering the command there is a little bit of modem activity and then the error is returned.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Peter

Could you provide the exact and complete error message? My guess is
that you have a typo somewehere in the pathname.

Arrrrgh! I didn't see the last bit of the line, right out to the side.

putting "noarch.rpm" at the end of the first line made all the difference.

Sorry to have wasted your time.

I had a similar problem, but it seemed to go away after we concatenated the 4 commands into 1 really long line (separating commands with "," commas).

That should not be required (and commas will not work) - the instructions were
correct, but people were missing the last part of the long line - which must
be entered completely.

We have updated the instructions to remove the single long line which
was causing confusion. Please see the revised announcement on
www.e-smith.org

Thanks,
