Are there any archives/logs/transcripts of proceedings?
I cannot answer this question.
However, I have to admit that whilst reluctant (as you are) to adopt a system relying on us "pulling" as opposed to "delivered" to which were added concerns about transparency, archiving, etc, I have now changed my mind about Jabber. The development room is providing a very convenient media to keep in touch with the developments of the distro. It is inter-reactive and fast, one takes what one needs, and one participates when required - my mail box is a lot lighter as a result...
I am accessing the development room using Pidgin (http://pidgin.im/download/) on my Centos box, and I have enabled logging, meaning that as long as I remain connected to the system, all transactions are on the records, admittedly "my" records". Whilst this does not fully satisfy my concerns about transparency, I now accept that this is a minor issue considering the advantages experienced with this system over the past few weeks. Finally, I am satisfied that there are no sinister connotations about it whatsoever. Over the past year or so, a fair amount of exchanges were conducted using Skype; these were in the form of private conversations unless inviting another party to join the discussion. The development room is a vast improvement - its is all in the open.
I think we just have to move on, and use whatever tools are available to simplify the job at hands. Besides, there must be a way to archive independently all transactions as I do privately by logging for myself. Just a small challenge to deal with, I do not have the skills to sort this out, but this should be a minor issue for people of your calibre.

I'm disappointed that it took so long to obtain that answer.
Since there are only a handful of you "chatting" there, could you not all be encouraged to just do you chatting on the 'devinfo' mailing list?

Why are you disappointed. We've been working on getting logging working correctly since we brought the channel up. We announced it when it was ready and not before. The history goes back quite a ways because we were testing different configurations.

Mailing lists aren't real time. There are those of us that like to get quicker feedback when discussing things. Also chat rooms are an opt in area. If you choose to participate then you can, if something is being discussed you don't want to participate in you can leave and review later to see if there is anything you want to read. With mailing lists most of what we discuss in the chatrooms would be spamming a hundred people.
Everything that is discussed is open for anyone to read. Once google finds the link then you will even be able to search it. You can't force everyone to use your method of communication. We are opening up avenues to make it convenient for developers to discuss things the way they are comfortable.
Also that small handful of people frequenting the chatroom are (with you Charlie as the exception) the ones that are actually making code changes and working on this distribution.

Why are you disappointed.
Because you left me six weeks with no answer to a simple question. You could have said "No, but I am working on it. I will make transcripts available, and will tell you about them when they exist.".

Since nobody is using this chat room, can it be closed and the sticky post removed? devinfo and bugzilla exist to discuss development issues.
