Topic: Changing web port because of Optus block

Just wondering if it is possible to setup apache to listen on another port other than 80.

I have SME 6.0.1 running beautifully on Optus cable, but they block port 80, I just want to run a very small phpBB2 forum.....I have signed up for a dyndns.org account, can that be used?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can change the port 80 in the templates, but there is an easier solution for you, if you agree to use port 10080:

Here you can download a rpm, which claims to do the changes automatically (not tested here)

I did do a search around to see if there was anything, but didnt find that gem!

Looks like optus just blocks ports 80 and 21, to discourage people hosting web/ftp sites I guess.

Well I did try searching, also just did a quick search for your howto, using the keyword "optus" and found nothing.

Optus has now seemingly blocked 10080 now, as I cant seem to connect on that port anymore..... so I might look at the templates to see where this change is made.

Nevermind me, always jumping to conclusions, worked fine, had my flatmate reboot the cable modem and works fine now, my bad!

Cyrus I think you restricted your search to much.  I wasn't using optus, but my ISP at the time were blocking ports <1024, so I had to change the http port.

Probably, all good now though. Except I thought that cable was supposed to be better than ADSL, not the case for this Optus cable, ping times are horrific and speeds are great for surfing there, but horrible for rdp/vnc/vpn and the like, they must shape certain ports.

There is a 128k speed upload cap.

Downloads are uncapped and only limited by the number of users on the node.

I thought port 80 inbound was blocked and port 25 inbound/outbound blocked. The outbound block can in turned off via a optus web page.

Remember, Optus do *NOT* permit servers. The port blocks are to stop IIS worms and spam relaying.
