Resource Planning
« on: February 13, 2009, 08:37:27 PM »
Does anyone have any hardware resource guidance for an SME installation?  Soemthing simple:

# of users = X RAM < XXXX Processor  <  XXX GB Storage

and which add-on packages are areas of concern for resource planning?

I need this primarily for budgeting and comparison to other solutions.  But I suspect it would be useful to all.

Rule of thumb...MORE is better!  How can we help you when we don't know what kind of uses the users are going for?  E.G. Graphics takes a LOT of space, whereas word processing doesn't. But you probably know this already.

More details on your plan might help.  Are they going to use Hylafax, eGroupware, Affa backup, etc?  There is just too much variation to guess at what you need/want.

OK, I will post a list:

SME with Tomcat for some limited development use (intranet only)
OpenOffice hosting for 4 to 5 thin clients
IMAP Mirroring of external email for 8 users, fairly heavy use
RedLight or Tracs
Subversion (maybe, probably on different machine)
Gallery2 for Internal use (Engineering images)
Bugzilla
LDAP
Remote access
Moogle (periodically)
+
KnowledgeTree (Document Manager, althogh this could also be on a seperate machine)
========

So 8 full time users, 5 part-time users - core tasks
File Serving and Document/Code/Image management
Email management/archiving and LDAP
No real print service

Right now I've got several machines plugging away at various tasks and an old SBS2000 server that needs to go.
