Hi There..

If your modul is this one: Alcatel Speed TouchTM USB.
Then i think you can get it to work..

Link: http://www.alcatel.com/consumer/dsl/supuser.htm

As the modems described above are in transparent mode, they support any platform including Windows 2000 or Millenium. In always-on connection (PPPoA), they are dependant of Windows, and Windows 2000 still includes the necessary support.
We will support Windows 2000 for our driver-dependant modems such as USB and PC in a second phase.

3. How about Linux?

Same story here, supported when in bridging mode by the Speed Touch Home and Pro

Hope that help.!!

I've been trying to get the Alcatel USB to work with e-Smith to no avail. I have receive the SpeedTouch Pro as well but that doesn't work either.

I have to admit that it is not e-Smith's problem, rather with configuration of the Pro. I have installed it on eth1, can ping 10.0.0.1 (eth1) and 10.0.0.138 (pro) and 172.16.1.1 (atm side of pro) BUT I cannot ping 172.16.1.2 (telco ATM side) and it is here that the problem lies I think as I don't know if they changed their default IP address there.

Also, what is the "initial IP address" that could be set on the modem? Do I have to set that on the same subnet as my eth0 (not 1) so that they can talk to each other. The manual is confusing, though much better than others I have seen.

If you have experience setting this up, please let me know.

I need to get the SpeedTouch USB, Home and Pro to work! Now you can understand why I haven't slept for the past two weeks!
