VPN from internal lan.

Hi all,

Can someone please explain the following. We have configured an e-smith box with one Win2K client running on the internal lan. The e-smith is connected to the internet via PPPoE which was configured from the install configuration. The problem is that the win2000 box is unable to initiate a vpn connection to an external host. I've upgraded to 128Bit encryption.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that PPPoE works by creating a vpn connection?? If thats the case, then I dont think vpn's can be inititated from within the internal lan. Please hlp.

Thanks.

Hi Andrew,
From my understanding, the e-smith box will not as standard do vpn-masq. It would require the patches which are in the contrib area. In other words it will not masquerade a internal client to a external VPN connection.

The only vpn masq rpm I have been able to find is
ftp://ftp.e-smith.org/pub/e-smith/contrib/CharlieBrady/SRPMS/ip_masq_vpn-0.1-1.src.rpm

Is this what you were refering to ?
If E-smith doesn't have the compilers etc how are you supposed to install it.
