LT Winmodem, Glibc, Gcc and E-smith

Ok! im realy angry! I have 2 modems. a 28.8k standard and a 56k winmodem. I want to use the winmodem because 1: i allready have it and dont want to but a new one as everyone on every other list keeps telling me! and 2: its twice as fast and my 28.8! I have drivers for it for linux (redhat 7 rpm, since e-smith is based on redhat 7 and has the same kernel). the RPM keeps telling me it wont install. no reason. just cant install! realy annonying! If i try and build a module or RPM im told i need gcc and cc. I took them of my redhat 7.1 Cd and it told me my glibc was too old or something. Anyway, i attacked my 6.1cd and i cannot find gcc. Any ideas? please help! on anything! dont have a version of RedHat 7.0. Anyone know where i can find the RPMS off it? Thanks!

Forget the winmodem - it won't work.

Lotas,

Almost all internal PCI-based modem cards (winmodem) doesn't work in Linux environment. For ease of installation, use external modem with COM port. It only cost less than US$100 and save your valuable time for trouble-shooting.

Did you not read the message. I HAVE A DRIVER!!! linmodems.org have drivers for my modem. Its just wont install! second part of the message, im not buying a new modem! now, y wont it install. Is it a different kernel thing? did anyone at e-smith change the kernel from the one that was in redhat 7? Mark wrote:

If all the RPM tells you is that it won't install, it's almost certainly corrupted.  If you want to build the module yourself, your best bet (by far) is to set up a RedHat 7.0 machine--you can download RedHat 7.0 ISOs, or probably spend all of about $3 to get a copy from cheapbytes.  Or you can get individual RPMs from rpmfind.net.

Ive just though about something. the file name is ltmodem-5.99b.i386.rpm. Would this be the problem. it being built for a i386 and an i586 kernel installed on the server?

It's possible, but not likely.  Do "rpm -qpi ltmodem-5.99b.i386.rpm", and see what it says.

Yep, sounds like the RPM is bad.
