ISDN dial on demand

ISDN dial on demand
« on: January 27, 2001, 11:32:34 PM »
Hello there©
I'm trying to use E-Smith 4©1 beta 3 to see if it can be used where i work©  Previously we used MS Windows NT 4 as a internet server to give us web access and host our website©  The machine was set up for us©  But now its had its final blue screen of death and requires reinstalling, and instead I thought I'd try setting up e-smith©
We have an ISDN dial on demand line©  The ISDN box on the wall is connected to a nic on the server computer©
I'm confused as to whether, when installing e-smith this counts as a dedicated line or a dial up line?
The ISDN line provider refers to using PPP and CHAP giving the number to be dialed and the password©  When I tried during the installation process to indicate a dedicated line i didn't get a chance to enter the phone number©  But when I try selecting dial up, it offers me serial port options for the modem and not using the network card to connect to the isdn box©

Would be very grateful of any advice©
Many thanks©

Sounds good to me.

If it's connected to a nic, then its a router-like device, so just use dedicated mode.

Presumably the number/password information is already programmed into the ISDN box. You will need to know its IP address to set it up, in server-gateway, dedicated mode.

I hope this helps
