Hello all,

Does anyone know if it is possible to host more then one website on the same IP address using E-Smith 4.1.2?

If so, please enlighten me :)

Ok,
but how do you set that up?  I'm a Linux newbie still :)

Thanks

You do as Steve suggested and read the f*** manual, which explains the very simple steps in the server manager.  You don't have to know anything about Linux; you just have to be able to read.

Boy, I'd hate to work in the same office as you Dan.   Ask a question, get your head bit off...

Nope, not just for asking the question.  Repeating the question, with no sign of having made the slightest effort to find the answer, is what set me off.  It is all spelled out in the manual in black and white, and the manual itself is linked from this very page.  But just in case there's continuing confusion:

http://www.e-smith.org/docs/manual/4.1/admin-virtdom.html

That said, I guess I went a little overboard; I could just as well have left out the last phrase of my post.  Unfortunately, I can't go back and edit it to remove that part.

Dan,

Doesn't work.  I'm looking to host more then one website on the Internet.  And adding a virtual domain just links my primary website to the virtual domain.

By the way, I DID make an effort to do this.  So don't assume I didn't read or make an effort when you don't know.  Took me hours of reading to set up this server.  I'm still learning everyday, and I just wanted some help.  I work full time and go to college full leaving very little time for me to pick up manuals and spend hours reading them.

Thanks,

Eric

No, adding a virtual domain does _not_ just link the primary website to the virtual domain (it can, but it doesn't have to).  I suggest you take a closer look at the manual--particularly where it says, "You then tell the server where to find the content for that domain - it can be the same as your primary web site, or you can create a new set of web pages and store them in one of your i-bays."

Dan,

Thanks a lot for your time.  Maybe I should have read that better, but after my birthday party last night , I'm just glad I can think at all.

Thanks a lot for your help...

Eric

If you're running 4.1.2, take a look at the link I posted a few messages ago.  If you're running a later version, look in the manual (it's on this site, linked near the top of this page) for the section on Virtual Domains.
