Virtual Domain Sending Mail
« on: June 26, 2002, 05:27:14 PM »
Hi there
I've got a little problem/question.....
I've got multiple virtual domains on SME 5.1.2 Server.

user1
user2
domain1
domain2

Problem 1.
User1 receive mail whether mail is send to user1@domain1.com or user1@domain2.com.
This is not right and I have seen threads where this is discussed and that may solve the problem and ain't that much of a problem at first sight.

But what is a problem and that can cause a problem for the above:

Problem 2.
When sending mail as user1@domain2.com, the mail arrives at the recipient as from: user1@domain1.com which is the default server domain and not the virtual domain.

That is wrong, replies may then end up in the wrong mailbox if I fix the problem (1) above.
I therefore should only fix problem (1) if I can fix (2) !

Any advise? I cannot find anything on this site. Tried forums, FAQ, How-To's etc.

thanks
Paul

or

1.
for a customised panel to view and manage your virtual domain email see
www.dungog.net/sme/howto/vdomain.html

2.
if you put the user@virtualdomain in the reply to or send to field of the email client it should work ?

Hi

On remark 1 , Thanks, I will have  a look at it.

Yes on remark 2, putting your name in reply field does work, but should a user not do this or delete it at a later stage, then the wrong adres will go out.
In one of the previous replies I was advised to look setup the virtualdomain file ,etc, but this still doesn't solve the problem. In M$ Exchange you can specify the adres to use if it has multiple adresses.
Here you are dependant on the user to complete the reply and keep it that way.
Also easier to spoof a sender adres.

That bring me to the next Question:
Can you somehow do a check if Reply adres matches the users email adres?
I can't find anything as far as this is concerned. Again with M$ Exchange it can be done.
I'm trying to get away from Exchange, but rather difficult at this stage!
