Has anyone successfully installed and used Xitami web server on any versions of their e-smith servers. Apache is an overkill for my needs while Xitami has very miniscule system requirements and yet provides a fair set of features and capabilities.

I'd be much obliged for any info or pointers where I could educate myself.

FYI, I know next to nothing about Linux in general, and only a little more about SME. But I don't think you can just remove Apache without a bunch of work. As is, SME has fairly low system requirements (not sure how much more the web stuff you require would add to that). It would probably be a lot of work for a small gain to swap Xitami in place of Apache. We have a Cyrix PR300 with 64MB acting as gateway/router and IMAP/web server for our small LAN (about 20 people) and I haven't noticed any slowdown on anything...

Again, I'm no expert, but I'd guess that it's more trouble than it's worth. FWIW, I did use Xitami on my Windows box 4+ years ago and liked it then.

If you don't need server manager, webmail, or any other web based services that come with e-smith, you could remove Apache without a lot of hastle.  I still don't think it would be worth it.  You would be better off stopping all the services you don't need (pptp, smb, mail) and just running Apache.

I still have a Pentium 200 MMX running Apache in a production environment.  I am not running any other services on there other than OpenSSH, and it performs great.
