Hello, I had been using e-smith-squid-0.2-6.i386.rpm for quite some time with wonderfull results and happened to come across e-smith-squid-0.3-2.i386.rpm and thought what the hey and installed it. Big mistake! Now no one gets access to the internet, no one. It doesnt matter what I do still doesnt work.  To add humiliation, I thought I wouldnt need e-smith-squid-0.2-6.i386.rpm so I deleted it, . Now I am trying to find a copy somewhere, does anywone have a copy or know why e-smith-squid-0.3-2.i386.rpm doesnt work properly, or might know what I have done wrong?

I have tryed reinstalling from scratch and the same thing happens, I am using 5.5 with update 2.

Hello how does this auth work ? How does the user logon to be able to surf on the web ? I installed it but as in your lan, no one get access to the net.

Please use the webpages (by the author) on e-smith-squid.
The URL is http://e-smith.dyndns.org/

Posting different versions (and especially versions without any srpm (source)) is _very_ confusing.
If you decide to put older versions on your webpages (not recommended), please include srpms for these versions.

Yeah I had the same problem as you but only with 0.3, the newest version, but I now have reverted back to 0.2-8, still no joy, now it doesnt work at all, everyone has net access now but now to limit people I just remove the proxy setup on thier individual pc's, no help for people who have the smarts to change it back though .........

Hello I still would like to know how this works, what is the authentication process. Is it made by ssh web client  ? With the 0.3-2 no one get access to the web, but anything happens to make authentication at the client's side.

Well I did a full reinstall on a new machine and installed 0.3-2 and it works!

I dont know how it works, but heres how I set it up:

1. Installed RPM
2. Under Proxy Users selected "Use Proxy Access Password  protected"
3. Added User to the grant access group and specified password.
4. When anyone goes to access the proxy, a popup appears. Enter in Username and password specified in theProxy users panel, and bobs you unle, if that user is on the list, it can get net access, if not it wont. Sometimes when I do this though for some reason I have to hit refresh to get net access after the logon prompt, but it is only happeneing with a win 2000 box.

Thank you Cyrus for your reply, I finally got it, just had to define the proxy server at the client side in Internet Options - Connections - LAN Settings - Use a Proxy Server. Now the pop-up appears.

I am using the Sharp Super Proxy with great success. I now need to authenticate users defined in one proxy from all the others in the bank. Any pointers on how to do this would be greatly appreciated..
