Printer/scanner probl.
« on: November 01, 2002, 05:28:37 PM »
Hi'
I have a E-smith server v/ 5.5 at home. It is server and gateway. There is 3 pc'er (win98) on the network, plus a HP G85 all-in-one connected to the parallel-port on the server.
It works great when I print from the pc's. But I cannot connect to the scanner with the program that comes with the G85.
Before I go out and buy a Jetdirect 170x - I would like to know if anyone think it will ever work with the G85 connected directly to the E-smith server?

I have been trying to find af solution to the problem here:
* http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/
* http://hpoj.sourceforge.net/
* http://www.mostang.com/sane/
* http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=4893.msg17116#msg17116
But with no luck.

Thanx in advance

Puter

I have had some experience with this device under Windows. Even when connected directly to a Win machine parallel port, the software is often difficult to install and problematic in use. Also, I believe the scanner software runs better on Win2K than on Win9x.

This is a question that you should be able to address with HP. Can it be used for scanning through a print server or through a Linux server?  Since they have been touting their committment to Linux lately, you ought to be able to get a straight answer.

You might start here:

Good luck.

AFAIK the only way you can scan from a networked HP All-in-one is with their print server, I've tried a G55 connected  to various boxes/print servers but decided life was too short
