SMTP port in QMail
« on: November 05, 2002, 12:45:17 AM »
Hello!

I have an SOPHOS MailMonitor soft ... This software works like an Mail Gateway on port 25 and acts like usual mail server...

So If I want that all runs on the same box I must change the port on which listen Qmail SMTP to 24 (or something else) that all incoming and outgoing mails will run through the MailMonitor (I jave done this on NT server, but I am not such a Linux PowerUser that I can do this without any help)

When I manage this I will post an HowTo .

Andrej,

I don't know the answer to your question, but I think you really need to do this the other way round and get qmail to process the mail and then pass it to mail monitor.

I was going to try and set mail monitor up the way you have (and Sophos recommend) but then you will get an open relay as far as I can see.

Not a good idea.

You can change the portnumber Qmail is listning by changing the portnumber for SMTP in the /etc/services file.

Yeas Mark you are right. You are missing som lines of Sophos manuals, where stands: SMTP server should relay only from IP where Mail-Monitor is. So If you install both on the same machine just put "localhost" in ...
