Forgive my question but is there a simple way to create automatically aliases like
initial.surname instead of firstname.lastname or firstname_lastname ?
Thanks for reply

Well of you don't need the firstname.lastname type pseudonyms at all, then you can just put the initial in the firstname field in user account setup.
That way the firtsname.lastname pseudonym will actually be initial.lastname

Will that work for you ?

You get firstname_lastname by default. Initial.lastname could be obtained by putting only the initial in the first name box on the server manager form.

haven't used sme.
used to use esmith 4.1.2

i used to create the user account name as initial.surname
and then type in the first name and surname in order for e-smith to create the standard firstname.surname and firstname_surname pseudonyms.

it's one of those strange things that e-smith will let you create the account name with a period in it where most other linuxes won't.

Daer Simeon

You could have a period in a user account name in e-smith v4.1.2.

Since then though the system does NOT allow periods in user accounts, probably since v5 but definitely from v5.1.2 onwards.
