DON'T USE BETA CODE (unless you know what you are doing!)

Can you update from 5.5 to 6.0 beta 1 without losing data? Probably. The file system will be converted but that is a pretty minor thing, few folks had trouble with it when they went to 5.6.

Will the 6.0 beta 1 server be reliable? Almost surely not. Will it run your 3rd-party addons properly? Almost surely not. Will it treat your converted data properly? Probably not. Will the server be reliable, stable, predictable? No.

6.0 beta 1 has been out about 100 hours. Few folks have had a chance to throw it on their test machines, to so much as install it. It is entirely possible it will do awful things to a large percentage of machines. Nobody knows. Nobody can know. That's why it is called a beta release.

Unless you're competent to recognize and report (and hopefully help resolve) any problems you've no business using 6.0 beta anything. Unless you're putting it on a server you don't care about you've no business using 6.0 beta anything. Unless you're willing to let awful things happen to that server, install a possibly completely insecure OS, one willing and able to secretly host unpleasant folks, one that will randomly and subtly corrupt data, you've no business using 6.0 beta anything.

My advice? Unless you really know what you are doing wait for 6.0. The real one, the one the fine folks at Mitel will be proud to call a real release.  Even then the prudent wait awhile just to make sure. Go ahead and do what you want but keep in mind this is 6.0 *beta* *1*.

While I would not suggest the beta for production systems that must be highly available, I would point out that if no one experiments with the beta, it would defeat the purpose of releasing it in the first place.

We encourage you to play with it, certainly, and let us know if you have any difficulties. Better yet, send us patches. This is how open-source software improves, and how a healthy OSS community works.

Cheers,
Mike

Hello again!

I just take few days to think aboiut this problem, and then i installed 6.0B3 on my server. I succesfully installed myphpnuke to it from old rpm. and i'm prety impressed how smooth all things went. :)

Point to do thiss was i did get Nuked to my websites. i dont know what they did but i think that i have been forget to do some security update. So now i run my server whit 6.0 and all is going well know.

Thank's for this new release for everyone in development. Just keep up the good work.
