Printer Question Server Only 5.6

Good Morning,

I've installed a few SME servers in server-only mode and have had great success. I was looking at the printers section of SME and was trying to figure out how to setup a printer on the server over either the AppleTalk or IPX/SPX protocols. It appears that the panel that configures the printers only deals with the TCP/IP protocol.

A penny for any ideas,

Wally

The server itself only handles TCP/IP. I expect you can do without AppleTalk and IPX/SPX, and you'll find that easier than adding such support to the server.

Yes, but the server WILL handle printing for an Appletalk network right out of the box ... as for IPX/SPX, there are add-ons for Linux that will let it speak IPX/SPX but as for printing, I dunno.

Good Afternoon,

How would one setup an Appletalk printer? HP JetDirect's support Appletalk but evidently the school district's DHCP is out of IP addresses so I was looking at AppleTalk or another protocol.

Thanks for the replies,

Wally

P.S. I mentioned in an earlier post about the MS Academic Alliance, it's a crock. The licensing sounds too much like the U.S. ATF laws. Put vague wording in it and allow the enforcer to bend it to his/her whim.
