putty session through VPN hangs after a few lines of output
« on: April 06, 2004, 03:35:32 PM »
I connect using VPN from my XP laptop through 6.0final server to a 6.0.1 SMEServer (via ADSL).

As long as I run commansds which only return one line of data, it works fine, but any command which returns more than 3 or 4 lines causes the connection to just hang.  CTRL-C does not exit the command, i can only close the putty window.

i can then establish another putty window, which also works until I output more that a 3-4 lines of output.

I am sucessfully connecting to 5.5, 5.6 and 6.0final servers at other places in the same way, with no problems.

Local putty connections to the server work fine.

I am using the latest stable putty (0.54).

Anyone any ideas??

Hi Brian,

This is a common problem due to the PPTP VPN issue discussed in the past.

One other symptom that you sometimes find when you get this problem is accessing server manager remotely via the VPN connection never brings up the pages completely.

The fix for me with SME 5.6 (still don't use 6 yet) was to include the multilink directive into the /etc/ppp/options.pptpd template and expand it. Then only XP, check the Enable multilink for single link connections option under Settings for the VPN connection. For further details search past posts for the VPN problem.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Kelvin
