Topic: subdomain creation via script

Scenario:

We want to allow our website visitors to create a unique username. Once unique username is chosen, create a subdomain automatically (username.example.com) pointing to (example.com/username).

Does SME Server have a script we could call? Or does wildcard DNS work on SME Server?
