FTP port cannot access
« on: June 28, 2004, 05:30:48 PM »
Hi!
I have a little problem with SME 6.0 box. I am behind chip based barricade and I installed my SME in Server only mode. I opened up 2 ports (80 and 21 in my barricade) and I forwarded those into my SME box. 80 is working well, but FTP port is not. If I open address like ftp://myhost.com via Internet Explorer, then I get error:
Quote
An error occured opening that folder on the FTP server. make sure you have permission to access that folder.

Details:
200 type set to A
500 Illegal port command
500 LPRT not understand

I have just installed SME and I haven't set permissions anywhere.
I used any kind of search engines but no help :(

Can anyone help me out?

In server-manager, go to remote access. There you can enable ftp access via a pulldown menu

If you think you know whats going on, you obviously have no idea whats going on!

You will also need to open the FTP data port on port 20 & the AUTH port (113) wouldn't be a bad idea either - make sure you allow TCP & UDP on all those ports.  BTW, if you must use IE as an FTP client, your commandline should be:

ftp://user@mydomain.com

that way, you'll get a password prompt & be able to login correctly.
