« on: July 19, 2004, 06:44:51 PM »
okay here is my situation!

I have a SME server running server-only
I use it as mail/webserver

he gets my mail from mail.mydomain.xx
only when i wanna send a e-mail (for example webmail) he dont send it.
it stays in the queue.
i configured everyting good on my extern domain.
the pop/imap uses my ipadress of the sme server.

the same goes for SMTP.

i configured my mail standard.

i have a firewall running, the ports works okay, i can telnet 25 to my mail server

Anyone knows what can be the problem?
i have a another smtp server running in my network.
if i can use that 1 its fine by me.
i thought i use Address of internal mail server

can i use that for smtp only?

Hope u guys can help me out

Regards Arno

Is your mail server setup to route it's mail through your ISP's e-mail server?

Basicly you send mail from your PC to your internal mail server, and then this sends the mail out to your ISP's SMTP server.

I can't remember exactly how to check it, IIRC correctly there is section in server manager where you can enter SMTP server details, I can't for the life of me remember exactly which section it comes under, but I'm sure someone here could tell you, failing that I could have a look when I get home this evening.

email routing

To check to see if you are routing email through your ISP's smart host logon to server-manager and click on the email link under Configuration.  Then check to see if you've got your ISP's mail server in the Delegate mail servers section (either to a local mail server or your isp's server) Although I'm sure that if this setting was enabled your mail would still leave your queue even if the mail server was entered incorrectly.  You would then get an admin notice of the mail failure to the email address set up to receive admin notices.
Clear this setting out then try again.  You may be inadvertently trying to forward to your other mail server on your LAN (Which my not allow routing)

When you telnet to the server are you doing this on the LAN or from the Internet.  If you are doing it from the LAN try to see if you can actually send a test mail to a local user then one to an external mail address (to see if you allow routing from you LAN)

You can check to see if you can ping your mail server on it's LAN ip and DNS name. Then enter the LAN ip or DNS name into your mail client.
