RPM cleanup: whats "ed" and "eject"?
« on: July 26, 2004, 12:39:53 PM »
Hi all,

I'm currently scanning the RPM DB of my SME 6.0, after having done some modifications, for cleaning-up purposes.

By now, I found two RPMs with no dependencies which are not in the list of standard RPMs of 6.0: "ed" and "eject"

Does anyone know these guys? Do I need them?

Greetings,

The next one is: "metamail"

Any ideas what this one could be good for?

This were all, I'm through.

In general: is it possible, that RPMs do have "dependencies" in the system which the RPM database doesn't know? Or can I simply erase independent packages if I don't know the purpose of it (and so they are useless for me?)?

My main issue is: I cannot remember that I installed them.

make a backup of your complete machine (not only the configs).
then uninstall the rpm's one by one and check if everything is working. if not, restore your backup.

by the way: why do you want to uninstall these files?
they came with SME and there is nothing useless.
