What version of Linux does SME6.0 use????
« on: August 29, 2004, 11:51:08 PM »
Hi

I would like to know what version of Linux does SME 6.0 use?

I have tried using the command prompt and using the uname -a command but I can't make it out.

The reason why I ask is I would like to install Ethereal on my server so I can measure the Upload/Download traffic on the Public Interface.

And I would like to download the right version of the GNOME libaries.

Any help would be greatly appreicated

Cheers

Ethereal is a packet sniffer and stores a lot of data when it makes the monitoring of the trafic. There is also one other good choice, "iptraf". This is not a packet sniffer its more a "light utility" that lets you monitor trafic to and from the server at any time. I think I installed the iptraf utility from the RedHat 7.3 (Don't remeber for sure). It works very well.

Ethereal packet capture
« Reply #6 on: October 14, 2004, 12:27:23 AM »
For those who are interested in packet capture
tools and their alternatives, the following
rpm version of ethereal can be installed directly
on SME60 without dependencies.  Ethereal tends
to be much more informative than what SME60
comes with - iptraf.
http://www.ethereal.com/distribution/rpms/all-versions/ethereal-base-0.9.11-1.7.2.i386.rpm

Output can be captured to a file, transferred
to another box and read by a version of
a version of ethereal based on X, windoze, OSX etc.

I correct myself: the version of ethereal that
is installed with the rpm above is
/usr/sbin/tethereal
which is the text based version of ethereal.
