HylaFAX HOWTO UPDATE to version 4.2.0
« on: October 13, 2004, 02:59:52 PM »
I have just completed testing the latest and greatest HylaFAX release. The tarball is ready to go and includes new, simplified installation instructions.

A fresh install now only takes minutes.

These are the packages I am now using;

cups-libs-1.1.19-8smea1.i386.rpm
ghostscript-7.05.6-0smea2.i386.rpm
ghostscript-fonts-6.0-4rvda.noarch.rpm
hylafax-4.2.0-1rh7.i386.rpm
libtiff-3.5.7-2.i386.rpm
metamail-2.7-28.i386.rpm

The tarball is located at ftp://chaloner.ca

Now my fax works

Hey thanks for the updated HylaFax. Had installed the SMERPFax and had problems getting it to recognise my internal modem. The modem worked, I tested it in a windows machine, was an older ISA one that used jumpers to manually configure IRQ etc. Just that I kept getting messages saying it couldn't open the port etc.

Just about gave up when I stumbled on your update and thought may as well give it a try. Glad I did. Log recognised the modem and now it answers. Just need to patch it into my PABX properly and I'm in business.

Thanks heaps for posting it.

Upgrading Hylafax

I'm thinking of upgrading from Hylafax 4.1.8 - are there any special points to look out for? Do I simply install the new RPMs?
Thanks
Nick

HylaFAX HOWTO UPDATE to version 4.2.0
« Reply #3 on: October 18, 2004, 08:10:12 PM »
I tested this over the weekend and was able to get it to work with the scripts from Jesper's site.  The 4.2.0 release says it can now use PAM for authentication.  Anyone have a clue on how to get this to work?

Thanks Chaloner and Jesper for your great work.

JB

It would depend on whose 4.1.8 install you used. It it was mine, then just;

# rpm -Uvh hylafax*.rpm
