CUPS: Can't print from workstations
« on: October 27, 2004, 08:03:56 PM »
Hello,

I have installed the newest CUPS on SME 6.0.1
A LaserJet 5 is configured with a buildin HP printserver.

Printer State: idle, accepting jobs.
Device URI: socket://192.168.7.4:9100/

Being admin I can send a testprint from within CUPS and that works fine.

When I send a printjob from a workstation it ends up  in the queue but does not print. When I click Restart Job it gives the error: client-error-not-possible.

The logfile says:
I [27/Oct/2004:19:43:16 +0200] Job 6 queued on 'hpl5' by 'martijn'.
E [27/Oct/2004:19:43:16 +0200] Unable to convert file 0 to printable format for job 6!
I [27/Oct/2004:19:43:16 +0200] Hint: Do you have ESP Ghostscript installed?

I have reinstalled the CUPS software and reconfigured the printers but that didn't help.

I am confused :-? please can anyone help me solve this problem?

Please read the documentation carefully, particularly the part where it says:
"Please note that you cannot feed output from a raster printer driver to a filtering queue. MS Windows drivers for non-PostScript printers are examples of raster printer drivers. If you have Windows computers on your network and you want to use the Windows drivers for your printer, you will need to set up a raw queue for the printer."
The client-error-not-possible is the result of a configuration setting not to preserve job files.

HTH,
Robert

Hi Robert,

Thanks a lot!!
It works now. I thought I had tried that too. Seems I did forget.
