Hi,

I'm having some problems logging into the sme server from windows xp after rebooting xp.  The server is hosting an Access backend database and has a bunch of users set up.  When one of the xp machines is rebooted and logged on and the Access front end file is opened the front end file says that the tables that are linked can't open the backend database file.

Now, we've setup all the xp profile's usernames and passwords to be the same as the users on the server.  We can fix the issue of the linked tables by manually opening up the server through network neighbourhood and entering the username and password.  As soon as we log on and start the front end app the links are ok.

The problem is that on some xp machines the account seems to log onto the server automatically when the user signs on.  We've never had this problem with any 98 machines or ME machines but it's hit or miss with some XP machines.  Is there some sort of setting in XP that allows the automatic log on to the sme server when it is required?  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Seeing the same issue as well but with attempting to print with the printer connected to the sme server.  Need to access "network neighborhood" to actually print.  I suspect something with xp.  I"m running 6.0.1.  I've heard that the 6.01 custom iso may solve this issue.  I have downloaded and will upgrade soon. :pint:

I had a few similiar issues also. I resolved them by doing some serious "hacks" on XP (Pro)

From memory, they involved making the XP run like 2K
-disabled quick user switching
-provided a proper login screen at startup
- demoted browser status to prevent w/s attempting to become a master browser

Many of these "hacks" can be found at www.sanx.org (and I am sure other places also...)

HTH - Post you final settings back to the list.
