What kind of redhat is centhos41 compatible with? Or must I compile it?

(Loading and trying to run on SME 7.0b5)
PII 400 1HD 128meg ram

7.0 loads then stops dead after reboot at loading "haldaemon".

Thought it might be a bad burn, same thing with
second burn.

haldaemon?

electroman00,  Please check the Bug trakker at Source Forge
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=96750&atid=615772
and lodge a report (submit new) with as much detail as possible.
You can also do a search about haldaemon there, there are two bugs providing information. Regards. chris

If it does not work out of the box, please fill in a Bug Report @ Bugzilla (http://bugs.contribs.org)  - check: http://wiki.contribs.org/Bugzilla_Help .  Thanks.

burnat

Thanks I should have looked there.

Wish I knew what the haldaemon is/does?

Didn't find much help though.

The system boots up and halts at haldaemon, locks everything up.

looks like haldaemon service was initiated for startup
in Beta5.
Will give B4 a shot!

Hmm, it is not that I am lazy, it is that I do not understand.

Centhos says:
############################
CentOS-4

CentOS-4 is a freely distributable OS built from the source at:

ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/4/en/os/i386/SRPMS

Before building the OS, non-free packages are altered. Non-free packages would include those encumbered with a non-redistributable copyright or trademark.

CentOS-4 supports x86 (i586 and i686), x86_64 (AMD64 and Intel EMT64), ia64, ppc, alpha, s390, and s390x architectures (The ppc and alpha architectures are currently BETA). Updates are distributed via YUM repositories (i386 only updates are also available via apt).
###########################

The package I am trying to build is available as Redhat 7.

I suppose redhat 7 is not the same as redhat enterpise 4 or fedora core xxxx?

I am a bit swamped with all these different versions.
I would like to make an howto using RRDtool and collectd, but find it hard to make rpm's of it. So it would be a lot easier if I could get those rpm's somewhere. But then you need to know exactly what fits.

I have built these packages, but that is not really easy for an howto. And yes I have red the wiki howto built your own rpm's but can't really follow that.

I will try using srpms to make rpm's. Maybe that works.

hc,

here is my understanding for this (someone might know better - then please correct me):

To find rpms for SME7 (based on CentOS 4.x), you should look for rpms ideally having "rhel4" (RedHat Enterprise Linux version 4) in it's name because rpms built for this should be working right away on CentOS version 4.
Technically CentOS4 = RHEL4 (?).

Redhat 7/8/9 is all "old".

So, CentOS 4 is a rebuild of RHEL4.

As Michael said, use RPMs for RHEL4. You'll almost certainly find any common tools on one or both of these sites:

Thanks! We are working on this in this thread on RRDtool and collectd.

http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=29362.0

I found an rpm for RRdtool, but can make my own for collectd now:-)

By the way, I could use some help in hacking the cgi script involved: collection.cgi. Where is the right place here to ask for help on that? It is written in undocumented object-oriented perl.

Clamav problem
« Reply #296 on: November 14, 2005, 10:11:42 PM »
Using yum updated server to beta 6
except where it started complaining that it could not update clamavdb because clamav was  not up to date(I think)

I decided to remove clamav and then reinstall. Removed dependent packages too losing my smtp server amogst other packages.

Downloaded iso and installed from that. Updated existing packages which therefore did not restore my smtp.

Installed e-smith-email(I think) which then reinstalled all missing packages. Server is again ok.

Also though, needed to change repositories from '4.1' to '4' in /etc/yum.conf again.
