A big THANK YOU to the (small?) group of developers who spend their time and skills on this project to keep it alive.

Best Regards,
Michael Doerner

It does not appear as if the devel rpm folder is being updated with the latest alpha version rpms (ie in this case alpha13), see
ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/e-smith/devel/
The srpm folder has the latest release versions and the latest iso is there (alpha13).

Is this intentional or unintentional ?

I assume we can download & install the few rpms rather than the whole iso.

Thanks

wow you are moving ahead fast. When do you think you guys will have a stable Release candidate out?

I'm not asking for a date but just a round figure in months maybe.
Who is General Failure and why is he reading my harddrive?

This has been resolved see
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=7261992&forum_id=43675

& other subsequent posts, look at other posts as the topic threading does not seem to be working correctly in all cases at Sourceforge.

FYI:
I have successfully installed SME7alpha13 (/etc/e-smith-release=alpha12) on two hardware plattforms. Installation went extremly smooth in both cases.

1)
Asus 1720E2/AA4, motherboard NCCH-DL with Intel 875P Chipset, 2x3.0GHz Xeon, 1GB RAM, 3ware SATA Controller 8506-4 with 4 Disks as RAID5, NIC Intel 82254EI, NIC 3c905CX, Adapatec 2940UW SCSI

2)
Dell PowerEdge 2850, Intel E7520 Chipset, 2x3.0GHz Xeon, 3GB RAM, 2x SCSI HD 146 GB RAID1 with Perc4, Onboard Intel Gigabit NIC, QLogic QLA200 Fibrechannel HBA connected to EMC Clariion AX100
SME7 was installed on a SW-Raid1 consisting of one internal SCSI Disk and a virtual disk on the AX100.  I admit, that this in not a really useful configuration, but the fact that it works out of the box is impressive.

Although in the alpha state SME7 already looks good.  Big thank you to the devel team!

Development will go faster if the developers had one of those. Or, to put it another way, development is slower on an old Celeron. :-)

Kudos for that should go to the kernel developers and RedHat.

Could someone provide some simple instructions in the use of zsync for people relatively new to linux? I am not sure how to get it to work.  Can I install the rpm found in the download section on a Centos4 workstation?  I just downloaded the whole ISo again for version 7alpha14.  Given the increased interest generated by version 7 around the place, any saving in bandwidth resulting from using zsync will probably be appreciated.  Many thanks.  chris

I am still using rsync happily the following way:

cd into folder with the iso (called "smeserver.iso") and run
rsync -avv --progress --stats --partial rsync://www.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/e-smith/devel/isos/smeserver.iso .

Works well for me.
